Rivers Will Rebuild Despite Political Setbacks — Governor Fubara Assures Citizens

Date: May 29, 2025

Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, has expressed his commitment to rebuilding the state despite the recent political challenges that have shaken its foundation.

Marking his second year in office, Fubara thanked Rivers residents for their trust and recalled his swearing-in on May 29, 2023, following a landslide election victory.

“Despite the political turbulence, I’ve stayed focused on my promise to serve Rivers State faithfully. Our progress may have slowed, but it hasn’t stopped,” Fubara stated.

The governor emphasized gains in healthcare, infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, and the inclusion of women in leadership roles, noting that these achievements were made possible by the unwavering support of the people.

“I remain committed to the goals of peace, security, and socio-economic development. Your encouragement gives me strength to press on, even when faced with adversity,” he added.

He acknowledged that the journey has been tough, with political instability affecting momentum, but reassured citizens that better days lie ahead. “We are at a crucial moment. Every step I take will be guided by what is best for Rivers State,” he said.

Fubara also extended an olive branch to political rivals: “To those still holding onto past grievances, I urge you to let go. Let’s work together to build a stronger Rivers.”

The political turmoil led President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in March. Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and state lawmakers were suspended, while a former naval chief, Ibok-Ete Ibas, was appointed as interim administrator.

Despite these challenges, Fubara insists, “The time to rebuild and rise is now. Let us put Rivers first.”
