Agidigbo FM Denounces Fake News about Oriyomi Hamzat and Naomi Silekunola
The management of Agidigbo FM has denied circulating rumors that its chairman, Oriyomi Hamzat, ex-queen of Ooni of Ife Naomi Silekunola, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Abdullahi Mfasasi, have been released from prison.
In a statement shared on Saturday via Oriyomi Hamzat’s official Facebook page, the management described the claims of their release as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard these reports.
The statement emphasized that the rumor is baseless and called on individuals spreading such misinformation to cease and desist immediately.
“Stop the spread of fake news!!”
Reports earlier claimed that Naomi Silekunola, who has been held in Agodi prison in Ibadan following a deadly stampede that claimed 35 lives, was on hunger strike. Her mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogunseyi, confirmed this in an interview, expressing concern over Naomi’s condition during a visit. Ogunseyi stated that Naomi was distressed by the incident and deeply saddened by the loss of life, particularly of children who were supposed to benefit from the event.
The prison detention stems from an unfortunate incident that took place on December 24, when Hamzat and Mfasasi were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ibadan, after being involved in organizing an event that led to the tragic stampede.
