Enugu Man Accused of Ritual Activities Claims Conspiracy Over Traditional Rulership
Levi O. Obieze, also known as Ezeani and popularly referred to as ‘E de play, e de show,’ a native doctor from Umumba Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, has denied all allegations of ritual killings against him. He insists the accusations are part of a deliberate conspiracy aimed at stopping him from becoming the next traditional ruler of his community.
Obieze was arrested at a border point while attempting to flee the country following the chilling discovery of two decomposing bodies inside a soakaway pit at his residence. The grim find was made after a teenage girl went missing on Monday while accompanying her father to a farm. The search for the girl led villagers to uncover the bodies at Obieze’s house.
Angered by the discovery, community members set his building on fire as the suspect escaped. However, he was later apprehended.
In a viral video recorded after his arrest, Obieze, handcuffed, claimed he was the victim of a political setup. He accused the President General (PG) of his community of plotting against him to prevent his coronation.
“This is a setup. My enemies don’t want me to be crowned,” he said. “I am Levi Obieze from Enugu State. I am a businessman residing in Benin Republic. I don’t even know where I was going. What is happening in my community is political and fabricated. I am the next king, but some people don’t want that to happen. They destroyed my house to weaken me and planted the bodies. The person they planted has now been caught.”
The case continues to provoke strong reactions in Umumba Ndiagu as residents demand justice and seek the truth behind the allegations.
