UnlimitedDiscovery News reports that controversial Nigerian singer, Speed Darlington, has requested the postponement of his scheduled appearance before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to June 26, 2025. This follows the widespread backlash from a viral video in which he claimed to have been intimate with a 15-year-old girl.
In a statement posted on his official Instagram page, Speed Darlington explained that the video was made purely for "clout" and entertainment, and was never intended to be taken seriously. He denied any wrongdoing and emphasized that he remains a law-abiding citizen with strong moral values.
“The video was a joke that got blown out of proportion,” Speed Darlington said. He apologized for any offence or misunderstanding the video may have caused.
In a letter addressed to the Director General of NAPTIP, the singer stressed that he has never engaged in sexual misconduct and rejected all allegations of sexual predation or violation.
“I have never engaged in or contemplated involving myself in any form of sexual predation, sexual violation, or any form of untoward act against the other sex,” he stated.
He reiterated his commitment to being a positive role model and influencing the youth morally:
“As a role model, I am alive to my responsibilities in helping to mould lasting moral values among our young ones. I would never do anything to go against that,” he affirmed.
The artist further clarified that the controversial video was entirely fictional and meant only for entertainment:
“For the sake of clarity, I reiterate that the said Instagram video was made for purely entertainment purposes only and does not reflect any previous or future event involving my person with any female, minor or major.”
Although maintaining his innocence, Speed Darlington confirmed his willingness to cooperate with NAPTIP and make himself available for questioning on the rescheduled date:
“If the agency requires further clarifications, I undertake to avail myself at the agency’s office on June 26, 2025.”
