Nigeria Could Be in a Much Worse State Without Prayer – Pastor Adeboye
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has emphasized the critical role of prayer in safeguarding Nigeria from worse crises.
Speaking during RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving service and a special prayer session for security and paramilitary officers at the church’s national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Pastor Adeboye said, “Some people ask, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting — where are the results?’ I simply laugh. If we hadn’t been praying, things would have been far worse. That’s why we must never stop.”
He stated that RCCG operates under a divine shield — a supernatural covering that has preserved the church from disasters over the years. Preaching on the theme “Shadow of the Almighty,” Adeboye shared remarkable testimonies that highlight God's unique protection over the ministry.
“There’s something special about the Redeemed Christian Church of God,” he said. “I don’t preach denomination, but there is a spiritual shield over RCCG — invisible, yet undeniable.”
He recalled an incident in the United States where a flood destroyed 14 out of 15 houses in a row, except one that hosted an RCCG house fellowship. “That house, number eight, was the only one left standing — marked by a small sign that read ‘RCCG House Fellowship holds here.’ That is not a coincidence,” he said.
Pastor Adeboye also cited the March fire at Otedola Bridge, Lagos, where buildings on both sides of an RCCG facility were razed. Yet, the RCCG building stood untouched. “That is divine covering,” he declared, as images from the scene were shown to the congregation.
He urged believers not to downplay the power of constant prayer. “God still rules in the affairs of men,” he said. “If those praying paused for just one week, the consequences would be terrifying. Let’s keep praying — God can change the hearts of leaders.”
Earlier in the service, his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, led prayers for Nigeria’s peace and for the nation’s leaders. “Let’s ask God to show our president mercy and give him peace, so he may lead well and finish well,” she prayed.
The service also celebrated Nigeria’s security and paramilitary officers, reinforcing RCCG’s ongoing commitment to spiritual intercession for the peace and protection of the nation and its people.
